Mahogany Indoor Furniture Care - you gotta pamper it a bit

 Well, it's not likely to be found on patios or (God forbid) in the garden - at least I hope not. It just doesn't have the durability and stability of teak. But it's beautiful indoors. And it almost always has a hard finish on it of some nature. A light dusting or a swipe with a damp cloth usually does the trick. But please don't use a furniture polish. This will discolor and cake or flake over time. Your mahogany already has a hard finish that protects the wood - this is impermeable to the oils in the furniture polish that people think will somehow preserve the wood. It's like smearing baby oil on your mirrors!
If you move the piece - specifically a table - don't drag it. You could detach the top or crack or chip the bottom of the legs. That's not just an excuse for husbands who don't want to move furniture around. And don't leave your lovely mahogany piece under an air conditioner or in a location that gets a lot of sun. When subject to extreme or uneven heating or dry air flow (air conditioners are great at drying wood), mahogany can move - causing warping or cracking .
